I’m really sorry that happened. It’s heartbreaking. Truly. (I’m also really glad I found your Substack.) 💜

Margo,

I read this and I felt I was there. The conversation! Wow! You capture the confusion, the chasm that makes true conversation and exchange and learning impossible, and yet I cannot settle that it’s impossible. There MUST be a way. I don’t know.

What a piece! Thank you.

I wouldn't have lasted more than a couple of minutes with that fellow, just as I can't last more than a couple of minutes with Trumpers.

Wow. Just wow. You lay it all out.

Sadly, this reminds me of so many conversations I have with my brother.

Often a loving, sharing connection we are having can go sideways in a heartbeat with some ridiculous racial slur. I always feel cut at the knees. I used to bark back but lately I just sit quietly and let his words dangle in the open space.

Oh Lord! How impossible it is to get into a two way conversation with some people. Their outlook is narrow and is a direct feed from garbage. Good read!! Thank you, dear Margo.

That incident sounds really upsetting! Sounds like you handled it really well.

The worst thing of all is when smart, cultivated people spit out bullshit like that. I don't know whether it's ignorance – which can be "cured" by the ignorants themselves, if only they wished to – or pure and simple human malevolence. But I agree with Elizabeth Bennett (great name!), there must be a way.

Omg, Margo, I saw this, and I thought, oh, I look forward to reading but it might be tomorrow. Now tomorrow is today, and I've read it and I'm SO UPSET -- I can't be sorry I read it because I need to know, but FUCK FUCK FUCK (I hope they don't take this down for vulgar language).

In the HuffPo there was an interview with some Hamas leaders, who of course are living in luxury in Qatar. (I was surprised to find the interview in HuffPo, since most of their articles are on the level of "These blenders have 1000 5-star ratings, and they're 10% off now.") These Hamas a-holes say that once Israel becomes unsafe enough, everyone who has dual citizenship will leave, and then they can make it another Islamic state (where neither women nor LGBTQ people have any rights, just btw).

I dare everyone to watch the video that a father released of the female Israeli soldiers who were beaten and bloodied and then threatened with death. I dare you because I haven't forced myself to watch it yet. "Am Israel chai" -- that only means "the Jewish people live."

OMG….There are so many dividers in our humanity. Thank you Margo for attempting to slice through. As usual, your words are your sword. Can I join your brigade?
